NewsThe Gateway Area Business Association (GABA) is looking for community groups that are fun, festive, silly, colorful and noisy to participate in the Fun-O-Rama Parade in May. They want everyday folks doing fun things, including groups that do some kind of music -- e.g., rhythm cadence, Latin rhythm, bagpipes, kazoos, something also those lines. Ethnic groups in their native costume, representing the increasing diversity of the Gateway area, are also welcome to participate. The parade is... The Eastminster Community Garden is located at 12505 NE Halsey St (beside the Eastminster Presbyterian Church). 15' x 15' plots are available for $50 participant fee; 15' x 30' double plots for a $90 fee. Planning for the 2012 concerts at Ventura Park is underway. Planning starts, of course, with the solicitation of sponsorships. How many concerts can be scheduled depends on how much money is raised by the first week of April. The park has been reserved, tentatively, for the last four evenings in August -- with the hope that we can raise sufficient funds for four concerts this year. Sponsorship information and forms are available on-line this year... Two bicycle skills courses (also known as pump tracks) are now installed at Ventura Park. There is still a little work to be done -- landscaping, paths and some refining of the slopes. But they are already getting some use. Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 9:00am - 12:00pm Friends of Gateway Green is organizing a 'No Ivy Day' event at the Gateway Green site -- with a focus on removing English Ivy and other invasive species from the wooded area, near the center of the site. Access is by bike or foot, via the I-205 Multi-Use Path. From the Gateway MAX station, head north on the path (toward Rocky Butte). Look for signs marking the location of the event. Some tools will be provided, but bring... The long-awaited construction on NE 97th Avenue, in the Gateway Regional Center, began in late July or early August -- from NE Glisan to NE Davis Streets. Improvements to the adjacent I-205 Multi-Use Path is expected to begin on or after October 12, 2011. When asked why the sidewalk on the side adjacent to the I-205 Multi-Use Path looks so wide, we were told that the bike path and sidewalk will be separated through this section to enable the residents of the nearby care center to walk around the block without concern about colliding with a bicycle.
Property owners... Portland developer, Gordon Jones, presented the first phase of his two-phase plan to construct two four-story buildings, which will each contain 45 residences, on the 300 block of NE 97th Avenue.
